A Contemporary Brick Extension

This contemporary single-storey brick extension was designed to provide a crisp, modern contrast to the existing family home.

2025 / Fife / Complete

This contemporary single-storey rear extension was designed to stand out from the existing family home while still complementing it through the use of a carefully selected brick tone that picks up colours from the original building. The extension expands the kitchen and dining area to create a bright sunroom-style seating space where the clients can relax, read and watch television as a family all while maintaining a strong connection to their much-loved garden. Large bifolding doors, a flat roof with a generous skylight, and a carefully positioned feature window allow sunlight to flood the space and frame views of the garden. Neutral tone window frames were proposed to soften the overall look and compliment the brick. Planning approval was granted in less than 5 weeks and the building warrant was approved in just 3.5 weeks, allowing the project to progress efficiently and enabling the clients to start on site in line with their timescales.

Client testimonial: ‘Samantha was very pleasant and professional to work with on what was our first experience of planning and building an extension. Each step of the process was clearly explained, including the timing and the associated costs. Samantha answered all our questions promptly and worked hard on adjusting the plans to our wishes and advising on materials that would give our modern extension character. She also recommended an excellent builder and we are delighted with the end result. We now spend most our time relaxing in the extension, looking out onto the garden and enjoying the investment we made in our home. I would highly recommend Samantha to anyone looking to improve their home.’
